A striking vintage Kewa (Santo Domingo) Pueblo necklace, likely dating to the 20th century, featuring an expressive combination of hand-cut turquoise, Mediterranean coral, and traditional heishi.
The necklace is composed of substantial, irregularly shaped turquoise tabs and nuggets, graduated in size toward the center. Each piece retains its individual shape, coloration, and natural matrix, giving the necklace the wonderfully organic character associated with traditional Kewa lapidary work. Warm Mediterranean coral beads are interspersed among the turquoise, creating a beautiful contrast of earthy red-orange against blue-green stone.
Toward the top of the necklace, the larger stones transition into finely cut heishi, providing a more delicate finish around the neckline and beautifully balancing the substantial turquoise and coral below.
